At the heart of the BZA Blue Edge Saltwater Reef System is a display tank built from top-quality ultra clear low-iron glass, delivering natural color, crisp visibility, and a clean, modern silhouette. Its ultra low-profile overflow provides excellent surface skimming without taking over the aquascape or eating up interior space.

The footprint is balanced for serious reefkeeping — the depth allows for natural scaping, flow paths, and open sand zones. The height makes lighting efficient and hands-on maintenance easier. At under four feet long, it works with standard lighting while giving you room to grow a real reef.
Flush-mounted plumbing runs discreetly beneath the tank, routed through a reinforced, dual-layered glass base. There’s no rear plumbing, no external or internal plastic boxes, and nothing protruding from the back or into the system. This ultra-thin overflow design is made possible by an internal glass chamber seamlessly integrated into the bottom of the tank.

✍️ Designer’s Note
When I designed the Blue Edge Reef System, my intent was to create what I believe is the ideal footprint for a balanced reef aquarium. My vision was simple: an aquarium that works perfectly for a pair of clownfish — easy to light, easy to maintain, and built with a large filtration-to-display ratio for long-term stability.
The 47½″ length gives a bonded pair of clownfish plenty of horizontal space to establish territory, while still being compact enough to manage lighting with standard fixtures. The 21⅝″ depth allows for natural scaping and flow paths — enough room to place anemones, rockwork, and corals without crowding. At 17¾″ tall, the display keeps lighting efficient and makes hands-on maintenance easier than taller tanks.
Beyond clownfish, the dimensions support a modest reef community — small groups of chromis, cardinals, or anthias, along with carefully chosen centerpiece fish. Combined with a sump nearly the length of the cabinet, the filtration-to-aquarium ratio is far greater than mass-market systems, keeping the tank clean, stable, and functional over the long run.
This system is the kind of reef I wanted to build for myself — efficient, balanced, and designed to thrive.
🐟 The Sump — Smart Flow. Minimal Maintenance. Maximum Access.
The included sump spans 48¾″ × 17″, nearly the full length of the cabinet. It’s built for real-world saltwater use — high volume, stable flow, and quiet operation, without wasted space or gimmicky compartments.
Four-Chamber Flow Path:
Inlet + Micro Filter Drum – Water enters through a primary drain into a digitally controlled micro drum filter, handling mechanical filtration without socks or disposable rolls.
Biological Media Chamber – A passive zone for bio media such as bricks, ceramic, or other preferred material.
Skimmer Chamber – A wide open section sized for standard protein skimmers and flexible equipment layouts.
Final Chamber + Return – Water flows through a fourth zone — ideal for media or probes — before passing through adjustable weir gates into the return pump section.
An integrated ATO reservoir sits on the left side, keeping top-off water ready without sacrificing sump space.

⚙️ Automated Micro Drum Filtration
The sensor-activated micro drum is the innovation centerpiece. A float sensor monitors the water level — as waste collects and flow is restricted, the sensor triggers the drum to rotate, self-clean, and flush debris through a waste outlet.
No socks. No rolls. No daily maintenance.
Just a cleaner sump that runs itself between service intervals.
