Description
Kleiner Prinz Sword (Echinodorus ‘Kleiner Prinz’)
Kleiner Prinz is a compact, cultivated Amazon sword selected specifically for controlled size and dense rosette growth. Unlike full-size Echinodorus species that quickly outgrow smaller aquariums, this variety remains low and structured, making it suitable for modern planted layouts where space and balance matter.
This is a substrate-feeding rosette plant. New leaves emerge from the crown while older outer leaves are gradually shed. Growth is steady and predictable rather than fast or invasive. When established in a nutrient-rich substrate, it forms a clean, symmetrical clump without sending long runners or towering leaves.
Expected Size
Height: approximately 4–6 inches
Spread: 4–6 inches
Growth form: compact rosette with broad, slightly rounded leaves
Aquascaping Use
Best placed in the foreground or midground of small to medium aquariums, or as a low accent plant in larger tanks. Works well where a traditional sword look is desired without blocking sightlines or swimming space.
Water Parameters (Verified for Cultivated Stock)
Temperature: 72–82 °F
pH: 6.2–7.6
GH: 4–12 dGH
KH: 2–8 dKH
This cultivar is nursery-adapted and tolerant of moderate hardness. It does not require ultra-soft water and performs reliably in stable community tank conditions.
Light Requirements
Low to medium light. Medium light promotes fuller growth and stronger leaf structure. Excessively strong light without adequate nutrients may cause algae on older leaves.
CO₂
Not required. Supplemental CO₂ improves growth rate and leaf density but is optional.
Nutrient Needs
Primarily a root feeder. A nutrient-rich substrate or regular root tabs are strongly recommended for long-term health. Water-column fertilization alone is usually insufficient.
Placement Notes
Foreground to midground. Suitable for planted community tanks and layout-focused aquascapes where size control is important.
A compact Amazon sword cultivar with easy care requirements and stable growth, ideal for foreground or midground placement in planted aquariums.
