Dwarf Pea Puffer is a bold freshwater nano puffer best for planted species setups, known for its tiny size and active hunting behavior.
🐟 More About This Species 🐟
Dwarf Pea Puffer (Carinotetraodon travancoricus) is a tiny freshwater puffer native to southwestern India, especially slow-moving, heavily vegetated waters in Kerala. This species is found in calm streams, river margins, wetlands, and plant-filled freshwater habitats where cover, structure, and small prey are abundant.
Unlike many puffers, Dwarf Pea Puffers stay extremely small, but they are active micro-predators with sharp eyesight and a bold personality. They do best in planted aquariums with broken sightlines, visual cover, and careful stocking because they may nip fins or harass slower tank mates despite their size.
Dwarf Pea Puffers are best treated as a species-focused nano fish rather than a casual community fish. Their appeal comes from their alert behavior, compact size, and constant hunting-style movement through plants, making them one of the most recognizable freshwater oddball nano species.
