Description
Species Background
Glo Pristella Tetras are fluorescent color variants developed from the X-ray Tetra lineage. These fish are fully tank-bred and maintain the hardy, adaptable nature of traditional Pristella tetras while displaying vibrant fluorescent coloration that intensifies under blue lighting.
They trace back to South American tetra ancestry and are well suited to stable community aquariums.
Behavior and Temperament
Peaceful, schooling midwater fish.
They should be kept in groups of at least 6, with 8–12 recommended for natural schooling behavior and stronger visual impact. They are active but non-aggressive and mix well in balanced community tanks.
They occupy the middle water column and provide constant motion.
Adult Size
Adults typically reach 1.75–2 inches.
Water Parameters
Temperature: 72–80°F
pH: 6.0–8.0
GH: 3–18 dGH
KH: 2–12 dKH
Tank-bred specimens adapt well to moderately hard and slightly alkaline water. Stability matters more than precision.
Diet
Omnivorous micro-predator.
• Quality flake or micro pellet
• Frozen daphnia
• Brine shrimp
• Micro foods
• Occasional live foods
Color intensity improves with varied feeding.
Tank Requirements
Minimum Tank Size: 20 gallons for a proper school
• Open swimming space
• Moderate filtration

• Plants or structure for security
They show strongest fluorescence under blue or mixed-spectrum lighting.
Suitable Tankmates
They coexist well with:
• Corydoras
• Rasboras
• Small peaceful barbs
• Dwarf gouramis
• Livebearers
Avoid large predatory fish.
Why They’re Popular
These fish are popular because they combine the durability of classic community tetras with bold fluorescent color options. Red, Purple, and Orange varieties allow hobbyists to coordinate color themes while keeping easy, peaceful fish.
