Description

Species Background
Golden Pigeon Hybrid Discus are captive-bred discus originating from Singapore breeding facilities, developed from pigeon blood genetics crossed with other cultivated lines. These hybrids are selected for warm golden coloration, rounded body shape, and adaptability to captive conditions. As with most pigeon-based hybrids, final adult coloration and pattern continue to develop as the fish matures.

Behavior and Temperament
Peaceful, social cichlids best kept in groups. Discus rely on social structure and are noticeably calmer and more confident when maintained with conspecifics. They are non-aggressive toward tankmates and spend most of their time hovering in midwater. Stress is more often caused by isolation, unstable conditions, or incompatible tankmates than by social conflict.

Adult Size
Adults typically reach 6 to 7 inches in diameter. Growth is gradual and strongly influenced by temperature, diet, and long-term stability.

Lifespan
With proper care, discus commonly live 10 to 15 years, with longer lifespans possible in well-maintained systems. Their longevity reflects slow growth, high metabolic demands, and sensitivity to long-term environmental consistency.

Water Parameters
Temperature: 77 to 86°F
pH: 6.0 to 7.6
GH: 3 to 10
KH: 1 to 6

Golden Pigeon hybrid discus tolerate a wider range of water chemistry than older discus charts suggest, particularly when bred and raised in captive systems. Temperature stability is the primary requirement. Long-term health declines in cooler systems even when other parameters are acceptable. Stable, warm conditions matter more than chasing narrow numerical targets.

Diet
Omnivorous with a strong preference for protein-rich foods. Accepts high-quality pellets, granules, frozen foods, and prepared diets formulated for discus. Consistent feeding supports proper growth, body shape, and coloration. Uneaten food should be removed promptly to maintain water quality.

Tank Requirements
Requires a mature, well-filtered aquarium with ample vertical and horizontal swimming space. Strong biological filtration, frequent water changes, and stable temperature control are essential. Décor should allow open swimming areas with some structure for visual security. Best maintained in species-focused or carefully selected peaceful community tanks.

Why They’re Popular
Golden Pigeon hybrid discus are valued for their calm demeanor, striking golden coloration, and adaptability to captive conditions. Their rounded shape and evolving pattern make them visually engaging over time, rewarding aquarists who provide stable care and long-term planning.
