Description
Ludwigia repens ‘Super Red Mini’ is a cultivated compact form of Ludwigia repens selected for its strong red coloration and smaller leaf size. Compared with standard Ludwigia repens varieties, this form stays tighter, branches more readily, and produces a cleaner, denser bush when trimmed regularly.
The leaves develop deep red to crimson tones when grown under moderate to strong lighting with stable nutrients. In lower light the plant will still grow reliably but may appear more bronze or reddish-green.
This plant grows as a vertical stem and responds very well to trimming. Cutting the tops and replanting them encourages side shoots and helps create a fuller group. When planted in clusters of several stems it forms a dense red accent that contrasts beautifully with green plants.
It is a relatively adaptable stem plant that can grow without injected CO₂, but CO₂ and regular fertilization greatly improve coloration, density, and growth speed.

Aquascaping Use
Ludwigia repens ‘Super Red Mini’ works best planted in small groups where its color can create contrast against green plants such as Java fern, Anubias, or stem plant backgrounds. In smaller aquariums it works well as a background plant, while in larger aquariums it makes an excellent midground accent.
Regular trimming will keep the plant compact and encourage the dense, bushy growth that makes this variety especially attractive.
Why Aquarists Like It
• Reliable red coloration
• Smaller leaves than standard Ludwigia repens
• Easy to shape with trimming
• Excellent contrast plant for planted aquariums
• Suitable for both CO₂ and non-CO₂ setups
