Background
The Marble Angelfish is a selectively bred variety of the freshwater angelfish species Pterophyllum scalare. Wild angelfish originate from slow-moving tributaries and floodplain forests of the Amazon Basin in South America. The marble variety was developed through aquarium breeding to emphasize irregular black and white marbling patterns across the body and fins. Each individual fish displays a unique pattern, ranging from high-contrast black and silver to lighter mottled forms.

Behavior and Temperament
Marble angelfish are semi-peaceful cichlids with a calm but hierarchical social structure. They typically coexist well with other peaceful community fish but may show territorial behavior during breeding. Angelfish prefer calm tankmates that are not fin-nippers and appreciate vertical space and planted environments where they can establish mild territories.

Adult Size
Adults typically reach about 6 inches in body length and up to 8 inches in height when including the extended dorsal and anal fins.

Water Parameters
Temperature: 76–82°F
pH: 6.0–7.8
GH: 3–12 dGH
KH: 2–8 dKH

Diet
Marble angelfish are omnivores that thrive on a varied diet. High-quality cichlid pellets or flakes should form the staple diet, supplemented with frozen or live foods such as bloodworms, brine shrimp, and daphnia. Occasional vegetable-based foods help provide balanced nutrition.

Tank Requirements
A minimum 30-gallon aquarium is recommended for a small group, with taller tanks preferred due to their vertical body shape. Dense plants, driftwood, and open swimming areas replicate their natural habitat and reduce stress. Stable water conditions and moderate filtration are important, as angelfish are sensitive to rapid parameter changes.

Why They’re Popular
Aquarists enjoy Marble Angelfish for their striking black-and-white marbling patterns and elegant body shape. Their slow, graceful swimming and distinctive personalities make them one of the most recognizable and enduring centerpiece fish in freshwater aquariums.

Short Description
