Description
Species Background
Pink Flamingo Crypt (Cryptocoryne sp. ‘Pink Flamingo’) is a cultivated aquarium plant selected for its rare pink coloration. Originating from Southeast Asian Cryptocoryne species, this variety is grown specifically for ornamental aquascaping where color contrast and structure are key.
Growth Behavior
Slow-growing rosette plant that feeds primarily through the substrate. Once established, it produces compact, stable growth with leaves emerging from a central crown. Like other crypts, it may transition after planting and then regrow under stable conditions.
Size and Growth Form
Forms a compact rosette typically reaching 4–8 inches in height. Leaves develop in soft pink to deeper blush tones depending on lighting and nutrients, creating a dense, structured appearance.
Aquascaping Tip
Use in the foreground to midground against darker substrate, stone, or driftwood to maximize contrast and create a focal point.
Water Parameters
Temperature: 72–80°F
pH: 6.0–7.2
GH: 3–8
KH: 1–4
Light Requirements
Medium to high lighting required to maintain compact growth and strong pink coloration.
CO₂ Requirements
Not required but recommended for improved color and growth.
Nutrient Requirements
Heavy root feeder; performs best in nutrient-rich substrate or with regular root tab supplementation.
Tank Placement
Foreground to midground in freshwater planted aquariums.
Why Aquarists Keep It
Valued for its rare pink coloration, compact structure, and ability to create strong visual contrast in planted aquariums.
