Description
BZA Xingu – 15L Stainless Steel Canister Filter
Single or Dual Inlet Configuration
Introduction
The BZA Xingu is a 15-liter stainless steel canister filter built for larger freshwater aquariums, particularly planted tanks and aquascapes that require strong but controllable flow. It is available in two configurations: a single inlet model powered by a 25W DC pump rated up to 3500 L/h, and a dual inlet model using a 35W DC pump rated up to 5000 L/h. Both versions use 20-speed wired DC controllers, allowing flow to be tuned precisely to the aquarium rather than forcing full output at all times.
Unlike stacked-tray canister filters that restrict media size and compress flow paths, the Xingu uses a wide-open internal media chamber supported by stainless steel grates. This design maintains unrestricted circulation while keeping media secure and easy to service. The result is consistent turnover, long service intervals, and a filtration system well suited for aquascapers, CO₂-injected systems, and high-biomass displays.
The Xingu operates nearly silently in normal use. We run these filters in our own fish room and have thoroughly tested them on our own aquariums. When the canister is properly loaded and all air is fully purged from the system, the DC pump produces virtually no audible noise during operation.

Filtration Design
The Xingu uses a separated mechanical and biological flow path to protect biological media and maintain stable flow over time.
Included Internal Media Layout from bottom to top
• Coarse foam filter pad for mechanical pre-filtration
• Two Flexpure biofilter bricks used exclusively for biological filtration
• Six reusable media bags pre-filled with biomedia
• Open flow path to the outlet
The coarse foam pad is positioned at the bottom of the canister so debris is captured before it reaches the biological media above. The biofilter bricks and bagged biomedia are protected from clogging and compaction, preserving oxygen flow and long-term bacterial efficiency.
Key Features
• Fully open media chamber allowing flexible media layouts without restrictive trays
• Lower stainless support grate elevates media and maintains intake clearance
• Upper stainless retention grate secures media while preserving circulation
• Welded stainless buckles attached directly to the canister body using fish-scale welding
• Single or dual inlet configurations matched to tank size and flow requirements
• Quiet DC pumps with 20-speed control, wave mode, and feed pause
• Nearly silent operation when properly loaded and fully purged of air
• 9-foot controller cable for flexible placement inside cabinets or stands
• Soft base pad reduces vibration and protects surfaces
• Ships unassembled with the pump packed separately for safe transport

What’s in a Name
Xingu (pronounced SHIN-goo) is a major tributary of the Amazon River and home to many iconic freshwater species, including the Zebra Pleco (L46), Xingu Corydoras (Corydoras xinguensis), and several species of Pike Cichlids (Crenicichla spp.). Known for its clear water, rocky structure, and strong flow, the Xingu River represents resilience, balance, and support for diverse aquatic life. These qualities directly inspired the design philosophy behind the BZA Xingu canister filter.
For local pickup orders, we offer an optional preassembly service for $25.
If selected, the filter will be assembled in-house prior to pickup with the following completed:
• Pump and controller installed
• All gaskets installed on fittings
• Inlet and outlet fittings installed and seated correctly
• Internal media installed in the correct layout
• Silicone hose Will not be attached or cut
