Electric Blue Acara

Electric Blue Acara (Andinoacara pulcher) is a selectively bred freshwater cichlid developed from the Blue Acara, a South American species found in slow-moving rivers, streams, floodplain waters, and vegetated margins across parts of northern South America and nearby Caribbean drainages.

This aquarium strain is known for its intense metallic blue body color, rounded cichlid shape, and bright reflective spotting across the face and fins. Unlike wild-type Blue Acaras, the Electric Blue form was bred specifically for stronger color expression while keeping the same general body structure and cichlid behavior.

Electric Blue Acaras are popular as colorful centerpiece cichlids because they are active, intelligent, and usually more manageable than many larger or more aggressive cichlids. They do best in stable aquariums with open swimming space, structure, and tank mates that are too large to be treated as food.
