Arrive Safe Guarantee

All aquatic life is guaranteed to arrive safely.

Species Background

Roseline Barbs originate from fast flowing rivers and streams in the Western Ghats of India. These habitats are cool, oxygen rich, and structured with rock, sand, and submerged roots. Most individuals available today are tank bred, which has increased their adaptability to a wider range of freshwater conditions compared to wild fish.

Behavior and Temperament

Roseline Barbs are active, fast swimming, and highly social. They are true schooling fish are best kept in groups to behave normally. In small numbers they become restless and skittish. In proper groups they form coordinated schools and cruise continuously through the midwater. They are not aggressive, but their speed and constant motion can stress slow moving or long finned fish.

Compatible tankmates include
• Larger tetras
• Rainbowfish
• Peaceful barbs
• Loaches and other active bottom dwellers

Adult Size

Adults typically reach
• Five to six inches in length

Water Parameters

Tank bred Roseline Barbs tolerate a broad range when conditions remain stable.

Ideal range
• Temperature: 72 to 78°F
• pH: 6.2 to 7.6
• GH: 4 to 15
• KH: 2 to 10

Stable, well oxygenated water is more important than chasing exact numbers.

Diet

Roseline Barbs are omnivorous and eager eaters.
• High quality flakes or pellets
• Slow sinking foods
• Frozen brine shrimp, mysis, and bloodworms
• Occasional live foods for conditioning

A varied diet supports long term health and strong coloration.

Tank Requirements

• Minimum tank size: 55 gallons
• Longer tanks are strongly preferred
• Moderate to strong flow
• Open swimming space with plants or hardscape along the perimeter

They perform best in clean, well circulated systems with plenty of horizontal swimming room.

Why They’re Popular

Roseline Barbs are kept for their striking red stripe, metallic body, and constant motion. In larger aquariums they add energy and visual flow without aggression, making them excellent centerpiece schooling fish for planted and river style setups.
