Wild bettas are often associated with shallow, slow-moving waters such as rice paddies, marshes, ditches, floodplains, and heavily vegetated margins where warm, low-flow conditions are common.

The Dumbo Ear name refers to the oversized pectoral fins that give this betta its rounded, wing-like look when swimming.
