Amano Shrimp (Caridina multidentata) are freshwater algae-eating shrimp native to Japan and Taiwan, where adults live in clear freshwater streams and river systems. In the wild, they spend their time grazing across rocks, plants, wood, and other surfaces, constantly picking at biofilm, algae, and tiny food particles.

Their clear gray-to-tan body, fine dotted markings, and active foraging style make them one of the most useful shrimp in planted aquariums. Amano Shrimp are widely regarded as some of the best algae cleaners in the hobby, thanks to their big appetite and steady grazing behavior.
