Natural 4-inch cholla driftwood ideal for shrimp tanks and small fish aquariums, providing biofilm grazing surfaces, shelter, and natural texture.

Price range: $4.99 through $14.99

Description

Cholla driftwood is a popular natural material among shrimp keepers and aquascapers. These hollow sections of dried cholla cactus skeleton provide an excellent surface for beneficial biofilm to develop, creating a natural grazing area for shrimp and small fish.

The porous structure of cholla wood allows microorganisms and algae to colonize the surface quickly. Shrimp, snails, and small fish often pick at this biofilm, making cholla wood both decorative and functional in freshwater aquariums.

The many openings and tunnels in cholla wood also provide natural shelter for shrimp, fry, and small fish while adding interesting texture to aquascapes. It works especially well in shrimp tanks, nano aquariums, and natural-style layouts.

Each piece measures approximately 4 inches long. Diameter and shape will vary slightly since this is a natural product, making every piece unique.

Preparation Instructions

  1. Rinse thoroughly under running water to remove dust and loose debris.

  2. Place the cholla wood directly into the aquarium.

Cholla wood will sink once it becomes fully saturated. Some pieces may sink almost immediately, while others may take several days to up to a week depending on the density of the individual piece.

A light white biofilm may appear during the first few days in the aquarium. This is normal and is often quickly grazed by shrimp, snails, and small fish.
