Red Turquoise Discus (Symphysodon aequifasciatus) are selectively bred freshwater cichlids developed from wild discus native to slow-moving Amazon Basin floodplains, tributaries, and forested waters in South America. In nature, discus live in warm, calm environments with submerged wood, leaf litter, shaded margins, and stable water conditions.

The Red Turquoise form was developed through ornamental breeding for red-orange body color with turquoise-blue striping across the body and fins. Pattern strength can vary between individuals, with some fish showing heavier red coverage and others displaying more visible turquoise lines as they mature.

Red Turquoise Discus are calm, social cichlids best kept in peaceful groups or with gentle tank mates that do not outcompete them for food. Their round body shape, steady swimming style, and high-contrast red and blue pattern make them a strong centerpiece fish for aquariums built around stable water quality and low-stress tank mates.
