Gold Neon Tetra (Paracheirodon innesi) is a selectively bred color form of the Neon Tetra, a small characin native to blackwater and clearwater streams of the upper Amazon basin in South America. Wild Neon Tetras occur in shaded, slow-moving waters with leaf litter, submerged roots, soft acidic conditions, and dense cover.

This gold form keeps the same slender body shape and bright lateral striping of the standard Neon Tetra, but with a pale golden body tone that gives the fish a softer, brighter look in planted aquariums. The reflective stripe is produced by specialized iridescent cells, helping the fish flash visually as it moves in groups.

Gold Neon Tetras are peaceful schooling fish best kept in groups where their movement and color show naturally. They work well in calm community aquariums with other small peaceful fish, especially planted tanks with open swimming space and shaded cover.
