Blue Marble Angelfish is a graceful freshwater centerpiece species ideal for taller community aquariums, known for its blue iridescence and individually varied dark marbling.
🐟 More About This Species 🐟
Blue Marble Angelfish (Pterophyllum scalare) is a domesticated form of the freshwater angelfish native to the Amazon and Orinoco river systems of tropical South America. Wild angelfish inhabit slow-moving rivers, flooded forests, swamps, and densely vegetated waterways containing clear or silty water.
Its tall, laterally compressed body and extended dorsal and anal fins allow it to move easily among vertical roots and aquatic vegetation. Selective breeding produces the Blue Marble variety’s variable mixture of blue iridescence, silver coloration, and irregular dark marbling, giving each fish a distinct pattern.
Blue Marble Angelfish develop into graceful centerpiece fish that primarily occupy the middle levels of taller aquariums. Juveniles may remain social in groups, while mature fish can form pairs and become territorial during breeding.
