Black Schultzei Corydoras (Osteogaster schultzei “Black”) are a selectively bred form from the bronze cory group, with ancestry tied to South American cory catfish found in slow-moving streams, shallow margins, floodplain waters, and soft-bottomed habitats.

This form is known for its deep black to dark charcoal body color, rounded armored catfish shape, short barbels used for searching the substrate, and active bottom-feeding behavior. The black strain was developed through aquarium line breeding rather than being a separate wild “Venezuelan” species.

Black Schultzei Corydoras are peaceful, social bottom dwellers that show best in groups. Their dark color gives planted tanks and lighter substrates strong contrast, while their constant foraging adds movement to the lower level of the aquarium.
