Description

Fresh spring plants — these Venus Flytraps have recently come out of dormancy and are actively producing new traps for the growing season.

What You’re Getting

This is a Venus Flytrap (Dionaea muscipula) grown in a standard 3″ nursery pot. The plant is young but established, with active traps and new growth beginning as it enters its peak growing phase.

Light

Venus Flytraps require strong, direct sunlight to grow properly. Provide a minimum of 6 hours of full sun daily, with more being beneficial. Outdoor placement is strongly recommended. Indoors, the plant will only thrive under a strong grow light, as insufficient light leads to weak traps and poor growth.

Water

Use only RO, distilled, or rainwater. Tap water contains minerals that build up in the soil and damage the plant over time. Keep the pot sitting in approximately ½ to 1 inch of water so the soil remains consistently moist and never dries out.

Soil

This plant must be grown in a nutrient-free medium such as peat moss mixed with perlite or sand. Standard potting soil or fertilized mixes will damage the roots.

Feeding

Feeding is not required outdoors, as the plant will naturally catch insects. Indoors, occasional feeding with a small insect is sufficient. Avoid overfeeding, as it can stress the plant and shorten trap lifespan.

Temperature

Prefers warm conditions during the growing season and handles heat well when properly watered. This is a temperate species adapted to seasonal changes.

Dormancy

A winter dormancy period of approximately 3–4 months is required for long-term health. During this time, growth slows and some traps may die back. This is normal. Keep the plant cool and damp, and it will resume growth in spring.

Important Care Notes

Venus Flytraps are not typical houseplants and require specific conditions to thrive. Strong light, pure water, and proper soil are essential. When these needs are met, they are hardy and reliable plants.

Why People Love These

Venus Flytraps are interactive, visually unique, and naturally functional plants that capture insects. Their movement and behavior make them a standout addition to any plant collection while remaining straightforward to care for when set up correctly.
